HATS & SCARVES I Zsófia Marx

Zsófia Marx I Felt artist & designer
Zsófia Marx’s (1966) first encounter with felt was at the age of sixteen in her native country Hungary. Though she didn't really understand why, it touched her profoundly. After some years of working with felt she realized that the attraction laid in the way it re-draws conceptual boundaries. It is neither textile, nor sculpturing material. It has a strong physical presence, yet it is highly poetic. Her fascination has driven her to embark on a journey. She has traveled in countries where felt is traditionally crafted and used, learned from traditional masters, contemporary artists and designers, who helped and inspired her to find her own voice through this this 8000 years old material.
Felt consists of tightly interwoven, entangled wool fibers, embracing and supporting each other. A material so ancient, raw and rugged, that can simultaneously be sophisticated, elegant and playful. These are exact the qualities that define the work and designs of Zsófia Marx. For OASI Zsófia Marx has selected some of her finest designs from her felt hat collection. Each hat is handmade, therefore one of a kind and unique.
